Besides the objectives outlined above, challenges are also experienced which include but not limited to;
➢ Encroachment & degradation of the water catchment area.
➢ Sanitation & Pollution of the water catchment area.
➢ Limited resources for expansion, distribution & storage for the pumped water.
➢ Limited pumping capacity & treatment of the water.
➢ Non-Revenue Water;
Over the past few years, KWA’s Non-Revenue Water which is the difference between the water produced for distribution and the water billed was 50% against a national average of 32%. This shows the water lost as NRW is half the water billed as revenue and the high value can be attributed to the fact that the infrastructure operated by the organization is old and over 30years old and is prone to corrosion, leakages among other factors.
From our investigations, we have unearthed quite a number of illegal water connections. To help us reduce these illegal connections, we are offering Kshs.5,000/- for each illegal connection to anyone who reports the same. All communications can be sent via our official email, phone or in person and will be treated in confidence.
Please note that as per the KWA constitution all illegal water connections attract a fine of Ksh. 50,000/-.
